I’ve received a lot of messages and emails asking about a little more information about the Greens that I take so I decided to do a little ingredient break down for you all, this can also be used as a point of reference so that I don’t have to overload my email responses, so let’s hop to it <3
Why do I take the Greens?
As I mentioned in my post a few days ago, ever since having my twin boys and little girl I’ve battled with digestion complication and health issues. At one point toxins were found in my blood and my temperature had jumped up to 104, if you’d like to read the post you can go ahead and click hereMy big sister was the first one to introduce me to the greens and they’ve done wonders for my health. Barley Malt: This product tends to cause lower spikes in blood glucose levels. Celery Seed: An excellent source of vitamin C, which helps support the immune system and may reduce symptoms and severity of the common cold. These compounds appear to help relax the muscles around the arteries, which may allow for easier dilation and blood flow. Potassium, calcium and magnesium, which are present in the seeds, are also associated with reduced blood pressure. A primary use of celery seeds is as a diuretic. Kale: Aside from cholesterol lowering benefits, risk-lowering benefits for cancer have recently been extended to at least five different types of cancer. Papaya Leaf: Effective as a cancer preventative and treatment. In the tissue culture study, papaya leaf tea reduced inflammation and activated immune system toxic effects toward cancer cells, inhibited tumor cell growth and stimulated genes that modulate the immune system’s anti-tumor effects. Papaya leaf tea may prove to useful in treatment and prevention of diseases, including cancer, allergies and as a component in some vaccines.

Papaya leaf extract also decreased oxidized lipids and increased antioxidant activity within red blood cells. Parsley: Parsley’s volatile oils—particularly myristicin—have been shown to inhibit tumor formation particularly, in the lungs. Also been shown to activate the enzyme glutathione-S-transferase, which helps attach the molecule glutathione to oxidized molecules that would otherwise do damage in the body. The activity of parsley’s volatile oils qualifies it as a “chemoprotective” food, and in particular, a food that can help neutralize particular types of carcinogens (like the benzopyrenes that are part of cigarette smoke and charcoal grill smoke). Shown to function as antioxidants that combine with highly reactive oxygen-containing molecules (called oxygen radicals) and help prevent oxygen-based damage to cells. Vitamin C has many different functions. It is the body’s primary water-soluble antioxidant, rendering harmless otherwise dangerous free radicals in all water-soluble areas of the body. Vitamin C is also a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, which explains its usefulness in conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. And since vitamin C is needed for the healthy function of the immune system, it can also be helpful for preventing recurrent ear infections or colds. Beta-carotene, another important antioxidant, works in the fat-soluble areas of the body. Diets with beta-carotene-rich foods are also associated with a reduced risk for the development and progression of conditions like atherosclerosis, diabetes, and colon cancer. Like vitamin C, beta-carotene may also be helpful in reducing the severity of asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. And beta-carotene is converted by the body to vitamin A, a nutrient so important to a strong immune system that its nickname is the “anti-infective vitamin.” a good source of folic acid, one of the most important B vitamins. While it plays numerous roles in the body, one of its most critical roles in relation to cardiovascular health. Folic acid is also a critical nutrient for proper cell division and is therefore vitally important for cancer-prevention in two areas of the body that contain rapidly dividing cells—the colon, and in women, the cervix.
Pau D’arco Bark: Used by many during the cold and flu season, and is a remedy for smoker’s cough. Another medicinal use of Pau d’Arco is as an expectorant: to promote “coughing up” by the lungs in order to free mucus and contaminants that had been lodged there. Concoctions have reportedly had beneficial effects for cancer patients, anywhere from alleviation of chemotherapy symptoms to complete remission of tumors. Anti-cancer benefits can be had from Lapacho (the active compound), without any side effects being noticed. Candida Albicans, a fungus which causes yeast infections, has also been treated by the Pau d’Arco herb. Aside from patients dealing with candida problems, those with other issues involving fungi or yeasts — such as Aspergillus — may also be helped due to the antifungal nature of lapachol. Plantain Leaf: Contain potassium, vitamin A and numerous other constituents, including allantoin, fiber and cinnamic acid. Has mild anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. This herb is also known to improve your ability to clear mucus or phlegm from your respiratory tract and stop bleeding. Plantain leaf may also have diuretic action and the ability to improve your wound-healing capabilities. It has been prescribed for a variety of ailments, including tuberculosis, sores, wounds, indigestion, heartburn, bee stings and any kind of bite wound. Botanical.com notes that plantain is helpful in treating skin inflammation, ulcers and fevers that come and go. The University of Michigan Health System states that plantain leaf has been used to treat chronic bronchitis, poison ivy, burns, urinary tract infections and dermatitis.
Red Raspberry Leaf: Used to treat included the flu, gum disease, rubella, upset stomach, hangovers, diarrhea, fevers, vomiting, menstrual problems, and inflammation. The most popular use of red raspberry leaves would be for pregnancy .It has been known to help with nausea associated with pregnancy and to ease the pains of delivery. For woman that are not pregnant and have menstrual issues red raspberry leaves are known to regulate the menstrual cycle and relive the symptoms of PMS. Been found to lower blood sugars in people with diabetes. It can be very beneficial if you are trying to become pregnant. It is said to tone the uterus and provide many vitamins and minerals to the body. Also used to treat diarrhea.
Rose Hips: Are the fruit of rose bushes and, when fresh, can have more than 60 times as much vitamin C as one orange. These help treat infections and boost the body’s immune system. Vitamin C is an antioxidant as it scavenges free radicals that are harmful to all cells in the body. vitamin C is responsible for collagen production in the body, which is an important element in the structure of bones and muscles. Iron produces red blood cells, which oxygenate the body and is lost many times during menstruation. Vitamin C is responsible for the proper absorption of iron, making it a helpful ally for overall health. The use of rose hip powder can reduce symptoms related to rheumatoid arthritis.
Rosemary Leaf: Part of the mint family of plants. Traditionally associated with remembrance, and studies have shown that it can have a positive effect on the memory. With a high iron and vitamin B6 content which makes it a valuable ingredient in treating several conditions. It has been used for centuries to ease the symptoms of headaches and rheumatism, improve circulation, and fight the symptoms of epilepsy and memory loss. It is also used to stimulate the circulatory system and calm the digestive system. It is ideal for the digestion when the problems are caused by emotional stress. The rosemary leaf extract also has antibacterial and astringent properties and can lift the emotional state.
Sage Leaf: A very good source of Vitamin A, calcium, iron and potassium. Sage contains a variety of volatile oils, flavonoids and phenolic acids. Researchers have recently found an important connection between lycopene, its antioxidant properties, and bone health. Intake of tomatoes has long been linked to heart health. Fresh tomatoes and tomato extracts have been shown to help lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. In addition, tomato extracts have been shown to help prevent unwanted clumping together (aggregation) of platelet cells in the blood – a factor that is especially important in lowering risk of heart problems like atherosclerosis. TRAIL stands for tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand. Curcumin may block the progression of multiple sclerosis. May benefit children against leukemia and seems to protect against damage caused by cigarette smoke and eating certain processed foods. When the researchers added low doses of curcumin to human beta-amyloid proteins in a test tube, the compound kept the proteins from aggregating and blocked the formation of the amyloid fibers that make up Alzheimer’s plaques. Other benefits include Arthritis, cancer-preventive acyclic retinoids, the prevention of skin cancer cells, heart health due to improved ventricular function. Irritable bowel syndrome, Lupus, Multiple myeloma, and Rheumatoid arthritis.
Watercress: The vitamins are B1, B2, B6, C and E. Considered a superfood by many nutritionists because of its high levels of antioxidants in each serving. Also contains micro-nutrients that work in tandem with the antioxidants to combat cancer-friendly free radicals in the body.
