I’m a Bahamian and we mainly use dialect to communicate here. Believe me, it grinds my gears when people try to belittle the way I speak. You know what else I find offensive? When people from other countries (mainly Americans) tell us we sound like Jamaicans. I’m like, “Um, hello? Bahamians and Jamaicans sound nothing alike! Our accents are very different”. I’m pretty sure Jamaicans get offended by this as well.
