The biggest difference between a digital Graphic Drawing tablet and a Display Drawing Tablet is being able to drawing directly on the monitor screen of a monitor while the other is like drawing on a mouse pad.
Here is a photo of my oh so reliable and wonderful Graphic Tablet. As you can see there is no screen but just this smooth surface mousepad.
I like this graphic tablet because it feel just like I’m drawing in my sketchbook and I don’t have to calibrate my pen to the tablet like I do with the display screen.
There is an adjustment to me looking up at my computer screen while drawing down on my tablet….a.k.a a little hand eye coordination~
Here is a photo of my Display Tablet that is connected to my iMac computer; I ordered this display tablet from wacom back in 2008.
How does a Graphic Tablet Work
In order to use a Display and Graphic tablet you will need either a computer or laptop in order to use either one of these drawing tablets.
Now there are some graphic tablets that you can use with an android smart for, which I cover over in this blog post here, but for most graphic tablets they aren’t standalone drawing tablets.
Now usually when you purchase a graphic drawing tablet the pen comes with it but if you end up without a pen then I recommend using Jot Pens stylus as a budget friendly alternative.
Their pen stylus are compatible with most mainstream graphic tablets but you can also just order a pen from the actual company you purchased your tablet from.
I personally like to order my graphic tablets from Wacom because not only do they provide the pen stylus but you also get replacement nibs for the tip of your pen (those thing can wear out quick if you’re a heavy handed artist that press down hard when you draw.)
Can I use a regular tablet as a Drawing tablet?
Yes you sure can! That’s what I used to create most of my illustrations, well that and the free medibang paint app~
For a standalone drawing tablet you’ll want to check out either the iPad or the Samsung Tablet…..really just about any touch screen tablet can be used as a drawing tablet.
Just make sure you have a stylus pen to go along with it and you’re good to go create beautiful works of art or complex webtoon comics!
But we won’t go into much detail about that in today’s post but make sure you’re subscribed to my website so you can be notified when that next blog post drops~
