Webtoon artist can make anywhere between $100-$1000 depending on how many page views their series has within the canva section of LINE Webtoon!
So if you have 4 episodes and each webtoon episode brings in 10,000 page views that will total up to 40,000 page views within that month and you can get $100
According to an interview from the creator of LINE Webtoon Junkoo Kim featured webtoon artist starting payment is at $2000.
There are also other opportunities to earn more with different streams of income like Ad revenue, selling products, freelance commission work, etc.
According to other featured webtoon creators they are paid per episode released at the end of the month (sort of like how you get paid every two weeks in a regular job)
What are the basic materials webtoon artists use?
Here is a list of some of the basic tools that I’ve found a lot of webtoon artist use:
- Webtoon Artist Digital Art Tools:
- Wacom Cintiq 16HD, Huron, XP pen, Microsoft surface pro
- Webtoon Artist Digital Art Programs:
- Clip studio paint, MediBang Paint, Photoshop, Paint tool sai
- Webtoon Artist Digital Scripting Programs:
- Notepad, Word Doc, Google Doc, Celtic
- Webtoon Artist Computers/Hardware:
- iMac, iPad Pro, HP Pavilion, Acer Aspire
A lot of webtoon artist will use 3D material to help them streamline their work flow. So making sure to have a computer that will be able to handle 3D materials and high file sizes is a must for digital webtoon artist.
With 3D material this helps to decreases the amount of time used in creating background, poses, camera angle scenes.
Also with creating webtoon digitally it helps to cut back on the expense of art supplies like paper, ink, pens, markers, etc.
Of course this doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to create a webtoon traditionally but I’ll cover that in another blog post so make sure your subscribed!
What college classes should aspiring webtoon artist take?
I’m a self-taught webtoon artist so a lot of what I learned and knowledges that I gained has been from experience and research on google and how to draw manga books.
That being said you can totally go to school to learn the fundamentals of visual story telling but a lot can also be learned online and through taking a leap and starting your webtoon comic.
If you’re thinking about what course to take then I’d recommend anything that covers art composition so you can learn how to balance the images on your page.
Typography to help you with understand how different fonts yield different emotions.
Graphic Design can help you learn about logo creation for the title of your stories and color theory to make sure you understand what colors evoke different emotions.
Again a lot of this can be learned for free online through searching and testing things out.
There are also comic course online that you can take as well but I don’t have much experience with them so I don’t yet have one to recommend but hopefully I will in the future.
