Using compositional guides like the golden rule of thirds works perfectly for beginner webtoon comic artist who don’t quite have that natural eye for panel image balancing and spacing.
Here is a Comic Panel template from Making Comics Golden Ratio Blog post
Webtoon Comic pages are basically comic panels stacked on top of each other in a vertical format which makes for easy vertical scrolling on mobile devices.
While I was staring at my manga supplies (because I have a art supplies hoarding addition so I just store supplies and never use it but eventually I will….I just need to come up with the perfect story!)
I digresss though….so while I was staring at my manga supplies I noticed something interesting on the manga paper.
There are rulers on there and not only rulers but little check marks and guess what those markings can be used for!?
That’s right, Panel placement! I never realized this before!
All those years of struggling trying to figure out how to place my comic panels both digitally and traditionally…..
Either way I said all that to say that you can also utilize these ruler markers that’s found on manga paper to place your panels if you’re a traditional webtoon comic artist!
Top Manga Comic paper to use
My current favorite that has those tiny guide markers is this brand called DELETER and ICY
I live in the middle of Iowa so there aren’t really any nearby art stores and if there are any they usually don’t carry comic supplies….which is sad but that’s okay because that’s why we have the internet!
Here are a few places you can order your manga supplies from and also if you’re looking for art supplies in general then I recommend Blick art supplies!
For one Blick has so many sales so it doesn’t break the bank (unless you have an art addiction like me…..) and two when I ordered from them they had such fast delivery!
Who doesn’t love opening up a box of manga and art supplies! I’m getting super pumped just thinking about it!
Any whodoodle I let me know some of your art supplies additions and how you go about spacing out your webtoon comic panels!
What should you do next?
